A crucial skill you need to develop is learning to accurately estimate the distance of the shot. Stump shooting and 3-D tournaments can help sharpen your estimation skills, but don’t make the mistake many bowhunters do at these events. If you’re going to shoot from an unorthodox position, like kneeling or sitting down, then guess the shooting distance from that position—not standing up. Things look mighty different when you are at or below eye level to a whitetail.
